Tribal Links Tribal belly dance is a genre of it's own and is influenced by the dance and costume styles of North African tribes. There are all kinds of sub genres so trying to pin down a definition is not a good idea. Tribal fuses well with all kinds of other dance styles so I've seen variations that include fusions with anything from flamenco to morris dancing and they all seem to work. Tribal tends to attract the younger crowd and also those with Gothic tendencies. But then it attracts respectable grandmothers with a rebellious streak too so once again making generalisations is dangerous.
Whatever your tribal dance style there's a link here that will push your buttons. If there isn't, tell us about what does. Tribal is a growing movement and new websites are coming on line all the time. If we missed your site don't be afraid to tell us about it... chances are that we just haven't found it yet.
http://www.tribeofkismet.co.uk Tribe Kismet are an Essex based American Tribal Style troupe and Sarah (their leader) is Carolena Nericcio's UK representative. If you don't know what American Tribal Style belly dance is visit the link below and read all about it. We met Sarah and Deanna when they performed at a hafla in Derby and gave a workshop the next day in Nottingham. Their performance was jaw dropping and I'm told the workshop was fantastic. They're also two very lovely and friendly ladies.
http://www.fcbd.com This is the Fat Chance Belly Dance website, the home of Carolena Nericcio's American Tribal Style.
http://uk.tribe.net/home How to best describe this site? Facebook for Tribal dancers is the best I can think of. More posts and links than you could shake a stick at in a month of energetic stick shaking.
http://www.tribezuza.co.uk Tribe Zuza are STILL based in sunny Northumberland (they haven't moved to Nottingham as I previously thought... blame Olde Tymer's Syndrome). A most interesting site, more than just sales of tribal wear and jewellery.
http://www.britishtribalstyle.com British Tribal Promoting British Tribal style dance and unity/sisterhood. A new site (March '08) from two lovely ladies from Nottingham. Check out their new e-newsletter which they describe as: "e-Twisted, the slightly 'twisted' on-line belly dance newsletter, is a result of Hafsa's and Pauline Qu's passion and love for this art form, not to mention their urge to create something slightly bonkers and fun."
