Review of Misterton Hafla 14th March
by Claire

Ok, so I’d been at work all week, was short of a babysitter and now (after an age convincing my better half to dance with us again) I was on the longest diversion in the world to deliver my daughter to her swimming lesson before dropping her off at the school disco. To say I was running out of time was an understatement when  I received a text message from Di saying she was stuck in traffic too! And as for Barb…..!

Why oh why do we do this to ourselves??  I had spent much of the day dreading the “women with washing dance” that we had chosen to perform at Jackie’s Hafla and now it seemed I would have to perform a minor miracle. Just how do I deliver said kids, fed and watered to the correct venue, transform myself into the most complicated costume in the world AND morph myself to Misterton? Hmmmm….

We arrived after the performances had begun and the place was packed with a warm and friendly turnout of new and old faces.  As usual, the dances were varied, polished and captivating. We loved the Isle Dance Company’s rendition of Spice up your life. Brilliant!! Posh should take a few hints, loose the pout and take up belly if you ask me! Both Fay and Jackie’s students danced beautifully, a credit to themselves and their teachers, and a duet from Doncaster (sorry girls I didn’t catch your names!)gave a stunning first time performance.

However, for me one performance from Dans satam did it. Trish Champion (and Donna Conway) said to me before the performance -

”oh, Sarah would love some feedback from you from this dance”…

They did a FANTASTIC Bollywood number, lively and authentic, catchy and confident. I can’t tell you how privileged I felt. It was so obvious that they too had sat for hours in front of a Bollywood movie, stop, rewind…stop, and rewind again, all to perfect the moves. Well done ladies! We loved it!
And I know exactly why we do this to ourselves..Because we love it. We need it and we enjoy being part of this ever growing and changing dance we call belly.
