About this website

The LBD website is the creation of the webmaster who is soley responsible for the content and any errors or problems. If you take issue with anything on this site please let me know so I can fix it if I see your point. It would be nice if you'd let me know politely. I freely admit to being a newcomer to the world of Middle Eastern dance but I'm learning rapidly, any help with the learning process would be appreciated.

We aim to include all the various forms of Middle Eastern dance. If your speciality is Egyptian, Beladi, Morrocan, Tribal or whatever, it matters not to us. All the different 'flavours' are welcome here and we welcome your input.

This site is free and free of popups or paid advertising. Lincolnshire Belly Dancer is is an entirely independent volunteer project. We continue to provide links to other sales sites. Most of what's on the site now is the result of many hours of searching on the internet, multitudinous emails and many phone calls. We are attempting to gather the information that was previously available only by way of an informal dancers' grapevine or on widely scattered websites and make it easily available to all.

We aim to be an information gathering and dispersal point. We will happily link to any site that has information of value to the Lincolnshire area Middle Eastern dancing community. If your favourite site or teacher's link isn't here it's probably because we don't know about it. There's one simple solution to that... email the webmaster with the information you'd like to see here.

Reader involvement.

We'd also like to have submissions from local Middle Eastern dancers or enthusiasts. Have you written a dance related article you'd like to share?... Are you an artist as well as a dancer? We'll look at anything you send us and where possible will find a place for it on the website. If we don't already have a suitable page we can always create a new one. I've already been able to replace some of the old postcard images with original drawings by Jacky Cullum. (Thanks Jacky.)

How it happened

The website came about following a chance meeting at a Tarab Dance Company performance in Gainsborough in September of 2005. My wife, Connie, had just started Middle Eastern dance lessons and I surprised her with a date to see this fantastic show. We happened to sit next to a group of lovely young ladies (all of whom, we later discovered, were Middle Eastern dancers of varying abilities.) Connie  started up a conversation during the intermission.

By the end of the show I was as sold on Middle Eastern dance as Connie and the conversation with these ladies continued, the fact that I build websites as a hobby came out and one of the ladies mentioned that they wanted to create a website to promote Middle Eastern dance in Lincolnshire but didn't know where to start. That was the inspiration. The ladies are now our friends and I started drafting the website on the 12th of December 2005.

Since then the project seems to have developed a life of it's own. It has grown beyond all my expectations. At the end of February 2006 we are pushing 500 unique visits.

We hope you find this website useful, if you do please tell your dancing friends, if not, please take the time to e-mail me and tell me why and how we can improve. The more information you give us, the more useful this website will be.

Thank you Tanya, Liz, Hazel, Jean and Sara.
